Abstract
The advent of the retreading of radial tires has brought about a renewed
activity in tread compounding The higher cost and premium expected performance
of the radial truck tire has required greater sophistication In inspection,
retreading, and repairing Consequently, a greater demand for longer wearing,
lower cost/mile tread compounds has resulted Although standard grade trutk
compounds will remain popular for a number of applications, the future
successful truck tire retreader will have to be a successful radial truck tire
retreader and the successful tread rubber supplier will have to meet his needs.
This paper will discuss the tread compound requIrements for medium
truck tire hot cap retreads and the make-up of these compounds. It will
also discuss how to determine quality of a compound and hownot to determine
compound quality.
