Tensile, Tear and Hardness

ARDL regularly measures Original Physical Properties of materials submitted by customers.  Original Physical Properties testing performed by ARDL includes tensile testing, elongation and hardness measurements.

Tensile and elongation testing measures the force required to break a specimen and the extent to which the specimen stretches or elongates to that breaking point.  Tensile tests produce a stress-strain curve that is used to determine the tensile modulus. According to ASTM, “tensile set represents residual deformation which is partly permanent and partly recoverable after stretching and retraction.” The data is often used to specify a material, to design a part that will withstand application force or to maintain quality control.  ARDL provides tensile testing for rubber, thin film plastics, rigid plastics, PTFE materials and thermoplastic materials.

ARDL regularly provides durometer and IRHD testing according to specified methods or customer requirements using hand held and stationary equipment to penetrate a material with a special indentor.  The durometer is then recorded after a specified amount time and relates to the elastic modulus and viscosity of the material.  This testing can assist customers with determining the durometer across a surface and to ensure that the material meets a specified hardness range or control.

With the capability to mix and mold test specimens for ASTM and ISO original physical property specifications, ARDL is the right choice for your tensile testing needs.
